![]() ![]() Beginning the game, the player is asked the input Denim's name, birthday, and answer a series of questions determining their alignment and statistics. The player controls Denim and his expanding army as they move between nodes on a worldmap, triggering story events followed by either a single battle or sequences of battles. Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together is a tactical role-playing game in which players take on the role of Denim Powell, a soldier caught in the middle of a war in the nation of Valeria. A remake for the PlayStation Portable, Tactics Ogre: Wheel of Fortune, was developed and published by Square Enix in 2010. Quest developed further titles in the series before being absorbed by Square in 2003. Matsuno left Quest Corporation after completing Tactics Ogre, joining Square (later Square Enix) and developing Final Fantasy Tactics (1997) and other titles set within its universe of Ivalice. It has since been remembered as one of the best in its genre. The PlayStation version met with criticism for technical issues. Later ports also met with strong reviews, with many praising its gameplay and narrative. The original version sold 500,000 units in Japan and met with positive reviews. The music, composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto and Masaharu Iwata, used the narrative as inspiration and remains fondly remembered by the composers. The visuals were created by art director Hiroshi Minagawa and character designer Akihiko Yoshida. The gameplay, inspired by the video game Solstice, used a chess-inspired combat system in contrast with the real-time battles of its predecessor. The storyline was inspired by conflicts in Europe and Asia, based heavily in personal and political drama over the fantasy-themed narrative of Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen. Production of Tactics Ogre, which lasted two and a half years, was begun by Ogre Battle creator Yasumi Matsuno, who acted as its director, writer and lead designer. Battles are turn-based, taking place on grid-based maps from an overhead perspective with a focus on positioning and using character class abilities. The second entry in the Ogre Battle series, the story takes place in the warn-torn kingdom of Valeria, where protagonist Demin Powell works in a local resistance force against occupying powers, ending up caught in the ethnic conflicts driving the war. It was later ported to the Sega Saturn (1996) and the PlayStation (1997), the latter released in North America in 1998 by Atlus USA. I would imagine anybody that does enjoy strategy RPG’s has already played this game as it is known as being one of the very best.Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together is a 1995 tactical role-playing game developed and published by Quest Corporation for the Super Famicom. I highly recommend this game if you enjoy strategy RPG’s at all. The game will probably take you 30-50 hours to complete depending on your skill and how much you enjoy grinding, side quests, and etc. There is a lot of customization in this game. Some of the beasts are dragons, griffons, undead monsters, fairies, and many more. On top of all the human classes, you can recruit any beast in the game to add to your squad. You can train mages, knights, ninjas, archers, dragon trainers, and so many more. If you have played any of the Ogre Battle games you will know which types of classes are included. Ten total allies can be controlled during combat. The battles are the typical grid format turn based strategy RPG style. The basic storyline starts off with the main character and his two friends fighting for a liberation army against an evil empire. ![]() The storyline is very interesting and the fact that the game changes depending on which decisions you make provides replay value. I believe there are eight different endings depending on which path you choose to take. Tactics Ogre features a vast storyline with different paths depending on crucial moral decisions you are forced to make throughout the game. If you like strategy RPG’s at all and you have not played this game you owe it to yourself to try it. ![]()
